About the Furniture

Woodworking has been in my family for generations, most recently my father and paternal grandfather. I guess the chips don't fall far from the plank. In fact the Stiles name comes from the term for a set of steps that were built to go over fences in the English countryside. A stile is also a vertical framimg member of a piece of furniture.

Many of my designs are based on the principles of the American Arts and Crafts style. Others are inspired by design elements from other cultures. Some designs I create only once. Others, because of their popularity, have become stock items. Many of my pieces are custom made to meet the needs and desires of my clients. Some of these are completely original new designs. Others are modifications of my previously created pieces. All prices are based on time and materials and the complexity of the work.

I build the pieces with renewable source woods such as pine, Douglas fir, and Birch plywood. Multiple layers of high quality paints and stains and numerous paint treatments are used to create color depth and interesting textures. I hand emboss copper and “paint” it with an acetylene torch to create warm, lustrous patinas. This embossed copper is overlaid onto the furniture piece. Embellishments and hardware are added to complete the unique functional art piece.

Thank you for visiting, I hope you enjoy looking through my site, and I look forward to hearing from you.
